And there seems to be an ever-growing list of things to buy for a new house. Whilst there’s a lot to look forward to, there’s also a lot to do. Once you’ve inspected, cleaned and removed everything from your unit, take pictures of each room for your records, as well as your landlord’s. Whether you’re moving out of your parents’ and into your first home, or moving from your current home to a new one, preparing for a new chapter in your life is an exciting time. Clean all light fixtures inside and out This is where a moving checklist comes in it’s invaluable for planning and staying on task during a relocation.Another thing to consider is draining the equipment before they can be taken and loaded to your new place. Drain equipment: water hoses, propane tank, gas/oil lawnmowers. Make sure it is entirely empty and clean. Make sure smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms are working – replace batteries if necessary Clean the refrigerator and defrost it at least 24 hours before moving day, if you are taking it with you.Wipe down inside of drawers and cabinets.Sanitize bathtub, shower, sink and toilet.Remove grease, dust and dirt from the exhaust fan and overhead light. Run ice cubes, salt and cold water through the garbage disposal to clean out remnants of food.Clean out dishwasher, including around and inside the door.Wipe inside, underneath and behind refrigerator.Thoroughly clean stove and oven – remove drip pans to clean bottom surface.Clean inside and outside of microwave, including the filter underneath.Wipe cabinets in and out, as well as pantries and shelves.Make sure doors and locks work properly.Mend tears, holes or burn marks to curtains.
